Final Stage for New Building Regulations in Calgary’s Flood Risk Communities Such As Rideau-Roxboro

Rideau-Roxboro Community Association was just advised of upcoming Public Engagement Open House sessions and online engagement opportunities for the “Calgary River Valleys Project”, and we wish to provide some details to you as this begins November 24.

The CRVP is a years-long project to develop building regulations, to supplement Calgary’s Land Use Bylaw, for neighbourhoods considered to be at risk of flood. This is the City’s development policy overlay to the recently revised and released “Flood Hazard Maps” that identify areas and degrees of flood risk throughout Calgary. Final regulations created through this CRVP process will be relevant to each homeowner in Rideau-Roxboro. Now is your opportunity to learn the specifics and provide your feedback to the City.

Please see the City’s webpage and its various links: https://www.calgary.ca/water/flooding/calgary-river-valleys-project.html?redirect=/rivervalleys

The Calgary River Communities Action Group (www.protectcalgary.com) has engaged on this project over the years, and last week posted it’s Position Statement here: https://protectcalgary.com/crcag-position-statement-on-calgary-river-valleys-project/

However, these comments are high-level and CRCAG has not seen the specific proposed development regulations that would impact each homeowner. That is what is now being released by the City for feedback.

For further background information, see the CRCAG website and search “CRVP”, “regulations” and “flood maps”.

Please look closely at the City’s website on all of this, and subscribe directly to receive further updates, if this is of interest to you.
