Boulevard Garden Maintenance – Volunteers Needed!
Can anyone spare a bit of time to help maintain our boulevard gardens along 4th Street? This is a very pleasant way to spend any amount of time – you decide – and your efforts show immediate results! In addition to regular weekly maintenance, our neighbourhood crew always seems to have “special projects” on the go! Watering of course in our current heat, is vital for the plants and perhaps our neighbours along 4th Street can help us out with this also? It would be very helpful if when watering your own yards, you could throw a bit of water on the boulevard plants in front of your home.
Our community team meets every Wednesday morning from 8:30 – 11:30. You are welcome to come for an hour or longer – whatever you’re comfortable with and as your time permits. We generally have extra tools – but helpful if you have tools for weeding and clipping.
Our special projects are diverse and fun – expanding our rock garden, harvesting plants from neighbours who are “overloaded”, building flower pots, spreading new soil and/or bark mulch, etc. And on that note – if anyone DOES have extra plants they’d like to donate – we’d be happy to find them a new home!
Final note – we DO have some special projects “in the books” – but we’ll have to see how the construction crew (at 4th Street & 30thAvenue) affects us in the weeks ahead.
If you’re interested in helping us out on a weekly basis, or on special projects, or just dropping in once in awhile to help, please contact Evelyn Vandenhengel at gardens@rideauroxboro.com or (403) 850-7446. Our crew would really appreciate your participation – we’ve been doing this for a few years now and new faces and hands are always SUCH a help! Our community gardens are a wonderful resource in our neighbourhood – but they definitely need upkeep.! Many thanks for your consideration!
